Outdoor Furniture Revamps
Creating (simple) enhancements to outdoor furniture!
We enjoy working in our yard, creating outdoor rooms or spaces to relax. They typically include plants, pots and some type of seating. Over the years, we have purchased several bistro-style tables and chairs and as usually the case, they deteriorate over time due to the weather. It was time to sand and paint, so this year we brainstormed ways to make them a little more unique. In this post, we feature two different style bistro tables and a couple lounge chairs. Make sure you watch the one minute video QUICK TAKE and then scroll down to see the details – a Zibra Paintbrush GIVEAWAY awaits your entry!
BISTRO TABLE No. 1 REVAMP
We purchased four of these tables from Restoration Hardware 15 years ago, they were green and have undergone several color transformations. This year we are painting all our outdoor furniture an Anodized Bronze by Rust-oleum with a light burlap brown as an accent.
Ideally, it would be good to have the chairs and tables sandblasted for the smoothest finish but we opted for the wire-brush and elbow grease mode, it allowed us to remove all the loose paint.
We spray painted the table and chairs.
Here is a (simple) technique to make painting mesh tables easier. We purchased a large sponge and as we painted with our Zibra Square Brush we held the sponge under the mesh-top – it was quick and we avoided paint blobs and build-up. It worked tremendously well!
It was only necessary to put down one coat of paint with the tape. After pulling up the tape, we touched up with our Square brush, it provides great precision and control!
BISTRO TABLE No.1 REVEAL!
BISTRO TABLE No. 2 REVAMP
This table was purchased around 6 years ago from World Market.
After cleaning then spray painting the table and chairs, we decided to highlight the design by painting a solid circle around the centered shape on the table and seats. We took a dinner plate that was the right size, traced it on bristol board and cut out the circle. It’s important to use one hand to press down the board while you paint as well as make sure your brush strokes are in the direction from the board to the table surface this keeps you from pushing paint up under the board.
After the first coat of paint, we lifted the bristol board and used the Square brush to paint a second coat with precision. Definitely easier with the right brush!
A unique feature of the Square brush is the full 7/8″ Square shape with the tapered edge. The side with the longer bristles works great for feathering out the paint in areas where you need more control.

LOUNGE CHAIR REVAMP
If you don’t have this type of chair, you know someone who does. They are comfortable but leave a lot to be desired by way of looks. We typically pull them out when we need more seating but put them away when no longer needed. We looked at them a few weeks ago and decided there was plenty of creating (simple) ideas that would enhance them!
We highlight the details below and show you another optional design for this type of chair at the end – ideas are actually endless.
Clean and then spray paint with the Anodized Bronze.
Taped off the stripes.
Using the sponge and brush technique produced a great finish!
We were pleased with the stripe but decided to add more interest so we painted a portion of the arms.
LOUNGE CHAIR REVEAL!
We painted a second chair white and added grain sack stripes.
We would probably go with more of a burlap tan color and a deeper blue stripe to create more of a grain sack look for the next one!
Definitely a much more inviting chair!
