The Garden Door
How many of you have hedges or a garden space that is in need of a gate – how about using an old door?
Several years ago when we were remodeling our old home we removed all the old that wasn’t salvageable. Our goal was to keep as much of the old as possible to maintain the look and feel of an older homeplace. There was one particular door we didn’t need so we put it in our shed for safe keeping. Until now! After growing a hedge along the front of the property with an opening in the center, we decided to pull out the old door to see if it would work as a garden door. As you can see, the old door has a great deal of character. We actually thought about keeping the look in its original state but once we positioned it in the opening the door became too much of a focal point and we lost the look we were after. Our goal was to weatherize the door and make it a door that blended into the hedges. A (simple) solution providing appeal and function!

The old door had character but didn’t fit into our hedge well, with proper weather treatment and earthy paint color it blends in nicely!
